Kenneth R. Cone, CPA announced today that he/she is one of the cutting edge tax professionals who completed the American Institute for Certified Tax Coaches’ training program. He now bears the Certified Tax Coach designation.

“Taxpayers who really want to beat the IRS can’t wait for their accountant to work magic with a stack of receipts on April 15,” says Cone. “They need a plan for taking advantage of every deduction, credit, loophole, and strategy allowed.”

“Traditional tax professionals focus on putting the right numbers in the right boxes on the right forms,” says Dominique Molina, a San Diego-based CPA and Director of the American Institute of Certified Tax Coaches. “Our program is different,” she continues. “We don’t just help our clients record history. We help them write it, with a complete menu of advanced tax-planning concepts and strategies.”

The Certified Tax Coach program focuses on court-tested, IRS-approved strategies for minimizing Alternative Minimum Tax, maximizing deductions from real estate and passive activities, maximizing retirement savings, and similarly powerful strategies. As taxes rise to cover increased government spending, this sort of proactive planning will become even more important in the future.

To earn the designation, Ken completed an intense three-day training program. He has also agreed to abide by the AICTC Code of Ethics and complete 24 hours of tax-planning continuing education each year.

Ken Cone - My Story

Ken Cone - My Story

My story:
Some people have the privilege of being passionate in their work.  I have the gift of being very good at accounting and tax law.  But, it isn’t my passion.  My passion is to create the possibility of happiness for the rest of eternity!    One of my gifts is a very high intelligence.  With that intelligence, I love the challenge of complicated accounting and tax situations.  I love to troubleshoot problems.   I love being the hero.  When I first learned about tax coaching I was hooked.  However, the time wasn’t right.   Now is the time to take on this wonderful public service.  I love the United States.  And, if I had my druthers, we would have a logical tax system.

Unfortunately, Tax law is forged in the tension between the need to get elected with election promises to the voters & favors to powerful friends and campaign donors and the need for revenue to fund the activities of government from whence power is derived..  With these two forces in conflict, weird tax law evolves.  The average person cannot play games with the tax law that the wealthy can.  Tax coaching helps level the playing field.

There is nothing like the feeling that goes with having a client say, “If you hadn’t helped us, we wouldn’t be in business.”  I love that my training allows me to help people in the ordinary course of my work.

I’m always looking to improve my knowledge.  One year I had prepared my client’s tax return by April 15th, based on my best available knowledge of the tax law.  In June I read that she could take advantage of a provision that allows the conversion of long-term capital gains into short-term gain, and then apply that to the investment interest that has been carried over from past years to actually reduce taxes.  I contacted the client, explained that we could file an amended return and get a tax refund.  In this line of work, she was grateful that I passed on my new information to her benefit.

None of us come out of college with all the answers.  The tax law is too complex to master the entire law, regulations, court cases, and IRS guidance.  Having a team, such as the American Institute of Certified Tax Coaches as a resource, provides extra confidence that your best needs are being taken care of.
