2014 Community Volunteer Awards

Volunteer award nominations sought

2014 Community Volunteer Awards

Do you know a Rancho Cordova volunteer superstar? The Cordova Community Council is seeking nominations for the 2014 awards event -- "There's No Place Like Home!" -- slated for Feb. 28 at Rancho Cordova City Hall starting at 6 pm. Nominations are on-going and will close at 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, 2014.

MISSION
The Cordova Community Council Volunteer Awards is a public event celebrating and inspiring volunteerism in the community while raising the profile of outstanding volunteer efforts.  Theme for 2013 is "It's a Jungle Out There!" and will culminate our safari for great volunteers.

COLLABORATORS
This celebratory event includes dinner and awards ceremony.  The Cordova Community Council conducts all award nominating and selection efforts. Local businesses provide cash sponsorship and in-kind donations.

The awards are considered to be the premiere volunteer honors in the Rancho Cordova community, with the "Rancho Cordovan of the Year" a prestigious designation, usually recognizing a lifetime of community contribution.  This event is a match for those whose corporate culture prizes volunteer contribution and service to the community and wishes to identify with these values in Rancho Cordova.

ATTENDANCE
This event is attended by a broad spectrum of civic leaders and local elected officials who participate in the awards ceremony. Current venue limits attendance to approximately 150 people.  This popular event traditionally sells out.

PUBLICITY
The Community Volunteer Awards enjoy widespread publicity in Rancho Cordova as it is recognized as the most prestigious of local awards events. The event is marketed to the community through local media, social media and high-quality flyers distributed among civic groups and the general public and the popular CCC e-news.

Planning cycle begins in early January. Sponsor deadline is Feb. 15 for collateral materials, including publicity flyers, programs, signage, volunteer gear and event decoration.  Event marketing is year-round on the Cordova Community Council website, which displays winners and their stories for a full year.

SPONSORS
For 2014, sponsorship opportunities to be announced.

Highlights
Each year, the council recognizes outstanding volunteer contributions to the community in various categories ranging from business to faith leadership. The prestigious "Rancho Cordovan of the Year" award can honor an exceptional contribution to the community during the year or over a lifetime.

"This event may not be our largest, but it is the most inspiring." said Executive Director Shelly Blanchard. "It is a chance for us to shine the spotlight on the most amazing individuals and organizations in Rancho Cordova - our volunteers."

Blanchard said nominations often dig behind the headlines to find extraordinary acts of volunteerism that otherwise get overlooked. "That's why we open up the nominations to the entire community for those who have seen things others may have missed."
