No community event reflects the "spirit of Rancho Cordova" like the Fourth of July.? It is an all volunteer effort that, like our city, evolves with each passing year, growing and improving upon itself.? It has become the signature event of our community and the largest Fourth of July event in the region.
It should come as a surprise to no one that Rancho Cordova would embrace the most American of holidays and celebrate it in a big way. Although in 2009 the event will be billed as the 25th Annual Rancho Cordova Fourth of July, longtime residents remember gathering for fireworks and barbecues much earlier. In fact, celebrating the Fourth of July here dates back to the Gold Rush and a time when we were known as "Hangtown Crossing.”
While the Rancho Cordova Fourth of July Celebration is fresh and new each year with updated entertainment and other attractions, some things never change.
On the morning of the Fourth of July, there is always a parade that begins at 10 a.m., marching down Coloma Road and to the doorstep of Hagan Community Park.
There is always a two-day festival with carnival rides and great, free entertainment. For two days, vendors tempt visitors with wonderful treats and community groups turn out to help with it all. In fact, the Rancho Cordova Fourth of July is powered by more than 300 volunteers who operate trains, host visitors to the popular Hagan Park Barn, help park cars and much, much more.
Preparations for the 2009 Rancho Cordova Fourth of July Celebration will begin in January and volunteers will be sought shortly thereafter.
There is room for everyone at the Rancho Cordova Fourth of July, whether your organization is looking for a way to recruit new members or raise funds. Vendors will also be sought to provide food and other services. Check back early and often to www.ranchocordovajuly4th.com to find how you can join the fun!
