Rancho Cordova Historical Society

Gary Parker, President & Diana Ahlstrom-Rinderneck, Vice President

We preserve the rich history of the Rancho Cordova area; present Rancho Cordova's history to the public; and promote the discovery of history by visitors and residents.

The mission of the Rancho Cordova Historical Society is:
  • to preserve the rich history of the Rancho Cordova area by discovering, collecting and maintaining records and artifacts, and by encouraging preservation;
  • to present Rancho Cordova's history to the public by means of exhibits, archives, creative and educational programming, publications, events, and research; and
  • to promote the discovery of history by visitors and residents of Rancho Cordova, and more generally to educate the public on Rancho Cordova's role in the history of California and the United States.
Committed to preservation With the support of the Cordova Community Council, the Historical Society has embarked on an ambitious project to record the oral histories of Rancho Cordova's longtime residents. For several days each month, Historical Society volunteers transform the Cordova Community Council conference room to a recording studio, then lean back and listen to the fascinating stories of early Rancho Cordova.

The Historical Society is seeking wide engagement in this important venture, including the corporate community. Of particular interest is the preservation of artifacts of the early days of Rancho Cordova, when grape-growing and agriculture reigned, preservation of Rancho Cordova's gold-dredging past, and securing Rancho Cordova's high-flying history as it relates to Mather Air Force Base and Aerojet General.

Corporate partners are actively being sought to propel the Rancho Cordova Historical Society forward in its quest to preserve local history. This is an excellent opportunity for those with an interest and investment in history to team up with citizens who are dedicated to the same.

The Cordova Community Council is leading the way in the establishment of a Rancho Cordova Historical Society (RCHS). A group of interested individuals, led by a member of the Cordova Community Council Board of Directors, has been mapping a plan and successfully launched their group in 2009, teaming up with the American River Grange for "Rancho Cordova Living History Day."
