The Rancho Cordova Sister Cities Council is a volunteer organization promoting international understanding through participation in the Sister Cities International organization.
THE ORIGINAL COMMITTEE CONVENED FOR the first time on July 6, 2006 and was formally introduced to the City Council on August 7, 2006. Following sixteen months of hard work, its task completed, the committee was dissolved by the City Council. On December 28, 2007, we incorporated as Rancho Cordova Sister Cities Council, Inc.
In early Spring 2008, John Goldberg, a former Turrialba resident, met with the Sister Cities Council and communicated an interest on the part of Turrialba to explore a possible Sister City relationship. The rest is history. A number of communications followed resulting in the visits and signing of the MOU. Our efforts to identify, select, and establish additional sister cities has not ended with Turrialba. Please join us as we move forward.
Our First Sister City Turrialba, Costa Rica ON JUNE 30, 2008, FOLLOWING MONTHS OF research and long distance communications, we welcomed Turrialba Mayor Alfonso Perez Gomez and two associates to Rancho Cordova. The "Ticos" spent five busy days discussing the proposed relationship among our two communities and visiting local sites of interest. They met with local city officials, the Chamber of Commerce, representatives of the baseball community and school district - and service clubs. They also were honored at a luncheon catered by the Cordova High School Culinary Academy. The highlight of the visit was the signing of a "Memorandum of Understanding" (MOU) - our FIRST Sister City! Of considerable importance, the visit was in conjunction with the celebration of Rancho Cordova's Fifth Anniversary as an incorporated City.
SOON THEREAFTER, A RANCHO DELEGATION visited Turrialba to resign the MOU in the presence of their local officials and residents. Our delegation continued discussions of programs and activities of potential mutual benefit and also visited sites of sister city interest, including the Rawlings Baseball manufacturing plant which produces ALL Major league baseballs - and a sports event among physically handicapped students, one having won a Gold Medal in swimming at a worldwide competition in Shanghai China!

Why Sister Cities Is For MePREVIOUSLY MENTIONED ACTIVITIES related to the Turrialba success aptly describe the purpose and benefits of sister city relationships. Gaining first hand insights into other cultures, meeting friends abroad, student exchange and talent sharing, the importance of a foreign language, and the opportunity for young people to develop personal friendships abroad—all are expressions and goals which are readily understandable when experienced first hand. In truth, both communities benefit immeasurably. That is why we invite you to join us in developing and enhancing sister city ties throughout the world. Participation is easy.
