Opening in 2010! The Sacramento Children?s Museum seeks to build an environment that makes learning exciting and enriching for children and their families through exploration and hands-on activities.
The SCM aims to create a one-of-a-kind experience for children ages 0-8 years of age in our community by inspiring learning through interactivity. Imaginative, hands-on environments provide children with a gateway for opening up their minds to developing new abilities, building confidence, and making connections between their dreams and their real world experiences. Join the Sacramento Children's Museum in inspiring children to create and explore.
HISTORY
The Sacramento Children's Museum was founded in 2004, beginning as the vision of two teachers who saw the need for a space where children could learn through play. The desire in the community to build such a children's museum was so great, that the organization quickly grew to include local business-people, children's advocates, educators, physicians, attorneys, librarians and others. As a group, they embarked on a journey to determine how they could best meet the needs of the children in the community, with exhibits carefully designed to nurture children's imaginations, build their confidence and competence, and encourage them to tinker, laugh, create, and wonder!
SACRAMENTO CHILDREN'S MUSEUM TODAY
All of the exhibits and programs in the Sacramento Children's Museum are aligned to meet the California state curriculum standards, and are accessible for individuals with developmental, hearing, physical, social, and visual challenges. Most importantly, they aim to educate children through hands-on activity.
Children can splash around and construct boats while learning about the flow of water, play with balls while learning about velocity, and get messy with glitter and feathers while learning about self-expression. Children of all ages have a place in the SCM-there is even a special exhibit for infants and toddlers to enjoy safe exploration.
What better way to celebrate a child's special day than at the Sacramento Children's Museum? The SCM's party room provides a staffed, child-friendly environment where families and friends can celebrate birthdays and special events privately after heading out to the Museum's exhibit hall.
Parents can learn too! Visit the Parent Resource Center to gain support and information about child development, including resources that help adults better understand and facilitate the healthy growth and development of our children. All exhibits are open to the public and covered by the cost of admission, and special group rates are available for school groups, church groups, and other organizations. Celebrate the joy of learning in a museum made especially for kids!
