Sacramento Valley Live Steamers Railroad Museum

Sacramento Valley Live Steamers Railroad Museum

Founded in 1965, the Sacramento Valley Live Steamers Railroad Museum is a built-to-scale railroad located in Hagan Park in Rancho Cordova. The SVLSRRM is a non-profit organization dedicated to railroad and steam engine history. They operate a built-to-scale railroad for public benefit in Hagan Community Park.

The Sacramento Valley Live Steamers Railroad Museum is an organization dedicated to preserving the lore and history of American steam railroading. The Live Steamers offer fun for all ages with authentic built-to-scale, fully functioning steam engines and railroad. You are welcome to enjoy the railroad twice a month and during special events when volunteer engineers call "All Aboard!"

    HISTORY

Beginning in 1968 with fewer than twelve members, the Live Steamers began making plans and pooling resources to begin construction of the railroad that has since become a beloved fixture in the Rancho Cordova community. The volunteer workforce celebrated the realization of their shared dream on May 20, 1973 by hammering in a solid gold spike and beginning operation.

    LIVE STEAMERS TODAY

Today, the main line of the railroad covers over 6,300 feet, carrying passengers along a scenic route that offers breathtaking views of the American River. Observant passengers can spot a wide variety of wildlife which make the railroad home, including deer, wild turkeys and even a colorful peacock! Visitors of all ages can take free rides on the first Saturday and third Sunday of every month, or reservations can be made for special events such as school trips, birthday parties, or company events.

We are busy planning for our future, when we will add to our interactive museum, build a station and lay more track. We are adding hundreds of trees that enhance not only our railroad, but the environment of our community.

    MEMBERSHIP

The Live Steamers offer membership for individuals or entire families for a one-time initiation fee of $30 and an annual membership fee of $60. For those who live 100 miles or more from the track or belong to a recognized Live Steamers organization, the Sacramento Valley Live Steamers offer an associate membership for an annual fee of $30 with no initiation fee. Prospective members can request an application by filling out the form on the left.
