    Healthy Habits through the Holidays

A jumpstart to the New Year begins with a single commitment...

    Healthy Habits through the Holidays

It's human nature: putting things off until the first of the year because the Holidays are just "too hectic". It might sound something like "I'll just enjoy myself now and start that diet on Jan. 2" or "Next year I'll REALLY set some goals for my business". Business philosopher Jim Rohn said "Procrastination is failure on the installment plan"...

Imagine if you were to start one, JUST ONE, healthy habit now, HOW MUCH FURTHER ahead you'd be when 2010 arrives (instead of THAT much further behind)... Here are just a few tips to consider:

    PERSONALLY:
    • Give up just ONE Holiday treat! By just avoiding fried foods or chocolate or something, you'll still be able to enjoy the Holiday buffet but can avoid that one thing. Just for the Holidays pretend you are allergic. Also, be sure to limit yourself to ONE trip to that buffet line!
    • Don't wait until January to return to or start going to the gym, running, or popping in that exercise DVD. Doing something at least ONCE a week, is better than not at all. Plus exercise is a great stress release!
    • Find a fitness buddy. It's AMAZING what a little accountability will do to your commitment. Write down, email, call and let ONE person know about your ONE healthy habit. Want to maximize the commitment? Tell a dozen people or better yet BLOG about it. Check out one Sacramento man's incredible journey to lose 200 pounds at http://myoverduejourney.blogspot.com (good news: he lost almost 20 pounds his first week!)
    PROFESSIONALLY:
    • Imagine your business or career in ONE year from now and what you WANT it to be. Start writing down the things you have to DO BEFORE the end of the year to make that happen.
    • Nuture relationships with your current customers and contacts. They are, after all, your best source for future business: through repeat business themselves or through their referrals. Sending a Holiday card or even a Holiday gift might set the stage for a successful 2010.
    • Read a good business book. Many of us are traveling so have extra time at the airport, on the plane, after that ONE dessert. As Jim also said "Education must procede motivation." (You can tell I READ a LOT by Jim Rohn).
I'm sure many of you have ideas that can add to this list. Join our "Healthy Habits" forums at GoRanchoGuide.com and share YOUR ideas for "Healthy Habits" for individuals or business (read a good book lately?).

Meantime, enjoy the Season with at least ONE thing on your 2010 "jumpstart" list!
