3rd Annual Rancho Cordova Parade at the California State Fair

Forward, march!

3rd Annual Rancho Cordova Parade at the California State Fair

The Cordova Community Council is recruiting local organizations to participate in a Rancho Cordova Parade on Saturday, July 24 as part of the California State Fair celebration.

COLLABORATORS
Organized by the Cordova Community Council with the support of the City of Rancho Cordova, the Rancho Cordova Parades at the State Fair have featured a wide collaboration of community groups who agree to showcase different aspects of the city. In 2009, the Rancho Cordova parade included nearly 500 participants including the Cordova High School Band and cheerleaders, Cordova Senior Activities Center, Cordova Food Locker, American River Grange and many others.

ATTENDANCE
While the Rancho Cordova Parade is limited to approximately 15-20 groups, the audience is much larger. A typical Friday night at the State Fair may have 10,000 people along the "parade route."

PUBLICITY
The California State Fair had nearly 700,000 visitors in 2009. It is widely advertised throughout the state. The Rancho Cordova Parade enjoys strong support in the local media, and was featured on the front page of the local newspaper for the past two years.

VOLUNTEERS
If your organization is interested in joining the parade, watch our website and e-newsletter for sign-up information. A representative group of parade entries will be selected, and there will be plenty of room at the fair to come and cheer!

SPONSORS
Sponsors in 2009 included the City of Rancho Cordova, Cordova Community Council and Subway. Sponsors were featured on t-shirts worn by hundreds of parade participants. The t-shirts also celebrated the city's status as a 2009 "All America City" finalist. Sponsorship opportunities also include signage on float entries and other promotions as the parade makes its way through the Fair.

Highlights
Participation in the parade is free of charge. In fact, there is a bonus: parade participants get free fair admission.

The Rancho Cordova Parade is just one of a string of nightly parades being organized to showcase cities and communities across the state during the fair that opens on July 14 and runs through Aug. 1 at Cal Expo.

On Saturday, July 24 the spotlight belongs to Rancho Cordova, which will enjoy center stage during a 30-minute parade through the fair that will begin behind the California building and end in the Promenade.

Here's how to apply for the parade:
  • Get your Rancho Cordova group together and plan an entry. Plan to wear matching uniforms or t-shirts that express your Rancho Cordova affiliation. Be prepared to talk about how the entry will meet the "All America City" theme.
  • Parade entry is free of charge; free fair entry will be awarded to all parade entrants who are selected to participate.
  • Contact the Cordova Community Council at (916)273-5704 or email shelly@cordovacouncil.org to apply.
Deadline to apply for the Rancho Cordova Parade at the California State Fair is 5 p.m. Friday, July 16. For more information, community groups may contact Shelly Blanchard or Melody Mayer at the Cordova Community Council at (916) 273-5704.
